Valleyview Toastmasters Club Holds Its Annual Fundraising Auction
Last November 29, 2011, Valleyview Toastmasters Club held its annual fundraising auction at the Valleyview Municipal Library. Valleyview Toastmasters is part of a bigger network that is Toastmasters International, regarded as the world leader in communication and leadership development. Since 1924, more than 4 million people around the world have become more confident speakers and leaders because of their participation.
The auction night was joined by another Toastmasters club from Fahler called Smoky River Sweet Talkers.
First, each salesperson was called to the lectern to give 2 to 3 minutes sales pitch extolling the product for auction.
The mini-speech counts towards points on the member's record. The order of the speaking was determined by the Toastmaster.
Lights were shown to signal the speaker every 2:00, 2:30 and 3:00 minutes.
After the break, the auctioning began. It was facilitated by the experienced Mr. Robin Lovelace who did a wonderful job in making auction night full of fun, thrill and excitement.
And the items that made the blockbuster? They were the National Geographic DVD that has a collection of every article and advertisement, and thousands of photographs—from 1888 through 2009, and the book Cream Soda, authored by the presenter's young daughter Suzanne Boulet. They both fetched for whopping $110.
The Club will have its holiday break and will resume by January 2012. Valleyview Toastmasters meets in the Gallery at the Valleyview Municipal Library each Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
